02396-M0294LKHS- MORTICIAN’S DRESSING CASE. ca 1900. We usually don’t offer items like this (and it’s unlikely we will ever offer another), but since we had to buy it to get other items, perhaps someone may have a need for it. It’s brief case size and originally had all the items necessary to groom and present the deceased for the funeral. This type outfit was a stock item in the trade for many years and is pictured and described in the Derma Surgery catalogue previously listed. Some original items are missing and some have probably been added. The awkward punctuation in catalogue description makes it difficult to tell just what all is supposed to be present, but those items present include: Celluloid shoe horn, ivory handled shoe button hook, straight razor, large tweezers, wood handled curling iron, celluloid handled nail file, smaller file in a leather case, two nickel plated boxes of hair pins, celluloid box of collar studs, celluloid box of rouge powder, small tin of antiseptic hand cleaner, small tin of white grease paint, small celluloid box of some sort of salve (looks like vaseline, may be pomade), cylindrical celluloid box of cotton, two small brass tubes of lipstick, celluloid box of eye caps, celluloid box of safety and straight pins, hair brush w/ ebony wood handle, celluloid box of white powder, two combs. Items apparently missing include shaving brush & soap, strop, alcohol lamp, small whisk broom, eye forceps, small scissors. We’ll include a photocopy of the ad from the catalogue with this item. The case has seen better days. It’s dove-tailed wood & composition, originally covered with artificial leather but leather is gone and case has been painted black like original leather. Catch/lock works fine, metal corners all present. Leather grip deteriorated. Base and top have been tacked to frame along back. Name plate missing. Overall dimensions: 17" L x 11-1/2" D x 3-1/2" H (briefcase size). All.  $154.00
